HAIR AND STRUCTURE
Hair protects the head, one of the most vulnerable areas of the body, from heat, cold, and physical impacts, as well as impacting attractiveness.
Papillae feed hair. The root is within while the stem and body are outside.
Adults have 100,000-150,000 hair.
HAIR LAYERS
A hair consists of the following layers from inside to outside.
1- Marrow Layer; (Medulla) It extends from the centre of the hair. It consists of round marrow cells. It contains colour pigments in places. The marrow canal, which covers the marrow and is filled with air, appears grey in strong light and dark in less light under the microscope.
2- Fibre Layer (Cortex) It surrounds the marrow or marrow duct. It is a very hard layer and is the part that gives the hair its hardness. It consists of horned cells in the form of threads arranged in the longitudinal length of the hair strand. Its most important task is to produce pigments that give the hair its colour.
3- Scale Layer (Cuticle) It is the outermost layer of the hair. It is formed in flat cell layers. Single cell is colourless and transparent. This part completely or partially gives the hair its roundness.
