HAIR COLOURING SEGMENTS

The substances that give colour to hair, blood and skin are called pigments. There are three main pigments in the human body.

1- Melanin; Brown pigment. It is in the form of small particles. Melanin producing cells are called melanocytes.

2- Carotene; Yellow coloured pigment.

3- Haemoglobin; This substance found in blood elements is the pigment that gives the blood its red colour.

HAIR COLOUR

Dyes and dye products are basically organic compounds applied to the hair fibre as dye solutions or suspensions in water.

The dye is securely attached to the hair fibre by special chemical mechanisms or by bonds on or in the fibre surface. Dyes have permanence. It is not easily removed by means such as rubbing, washing, rinsing.

FEATURES THAT SHOULD BE IN HAIR COLOURS

1- It should be able to dye without damaging the hair and hold on the hair without damaging the chemical structure of the hair.

2- It should be able to protect the shine and structure of the hair,

3- It should not show toxic effect when applied to hair.

4- It should be resistant to air, shampoo etc.

5- Any other hair preparation applied to the hair should not change the colour.
